Despite the word "toxin" in its name, Botox comes from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which is also linked to food poisoning. However, when carefully injected into facial muscles, it has a different effect, temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and lines, such as those between the eyebrows. It's also effective for addressing a "gummy smile," reducing the display of excess gum tissue by preventing the lifting of the upper lip.
What to Anticipate:
Our skilled professionals use fine needles for Botox injections, and if necessary, we can apply a topical numbing agent for your comfort. The procedure is quick, and you can resume regular activities immediately. Makeup can be applied right away, though it's best to avoid rubbing the treated area for a few days to prevent the toxin from migrating. Inform us about any medications you're taking, as some might increase bruising. Additionally, refrain from alcohol consumption 48 hours before the treatment to minimize bruising risks.
Possible side effects include minor bruising, soreness at the injection site, or headaches. Severe side effects are rare. You can expect to see the results within a few days to a week, and they generally last for three to four months before a repeat treatment might be necessary.
Dermal Fillers
At Flower Hill Dental, we also offer cosmetic fillers, a highly effective solution for wrinkles around the mouth and nose. Often used in conjunction with or as an alternative to Botox, cosmetic fillers like hyaluronic acid gel can restore volume to aging skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component that diminishes with age, but our dermal filler injections can plump up creases, wrinkles, and lips, restoring a more youthful appearance.
What to Expect:
Before proceeding with cosmetic filler treatment, we'll inquire about any medications, including herbal supplements, you're currently taking, as they can impact the outcome. To ensure your comfort, we'll numb your skin with a topical cream or shot. You might feel a slight stinging or burning sensation during the injection. The entire process usually takes between 15 to 30 minutes.
Minor side effects such as redness, swelling, and slight bruising can be managed by applying ice after the treatment. Refrain from exercise until the following day to minimize swelling, and avoid touching the treated area for a few days. Hyaluronic acid filler results are immediate and typically last from 6 to 12 months. You can opt for repeat treatments as needed.
